1 - 6 October 2011

Vienna Boys´ Choir performing in Russia and Kuwait

On 7 October, the Vienna Boys´ Choir returned from an intensive and eventful guest tour which was organised by Rieder Promotions for the first time. After many years, Russia played host to the young choristers again with sold out concerts in Moscow on 2 October (Dom Muzyki) and St. Petersburg the day after (Cappella Concert Hall). The children enthralled audiences with a varied programme featuring amongst others works by Vivaldi, Haydn, Orff, Schubert, Schumann as well as spiritual world music and songs by ABBA, Queen and the Beatles. Sightseeing tours in both cities, film shootings at a broadcasting studio in Moscow and a short joint performance with a local Russian choir were some of the boys´ cherished highlights outside the concert halls.

The Mozart Choir´s next stop was its first visit to Kuwait on 5 and 6 October: upon invitation of H.E. Sheikha Hussah Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah, the boys performed at the Maidan Cultural Centre and Amricani Cultural Centre on the premises of the Dar al-Athar al- Islamiyyah, one of Kuwait´s most important cultural organisations. Again, the concerts resonated enormously among listeners of all ages, the demand being so great that many people had to be sent home without any tickets. A workshop at the Kuwait English School on 5 October was thoroughly enjoyed both by the local children and the choristers. Prospects for a future closer co-operation in the field of master classes and workshops in Kuwait City might be discussed in the months to come.

Rieder Promotions would cordially like to thank the president of the Vienna Boys´ Choir Walter Nettig, the managing director Gerald Wirth, the team on tour, but especially the young choristers who remained very professional throughout the entire journey despite the tight and challenging schedule. We look forward to realising further joint projects in the next years.

Guest concert of the Vienna Philharmonic at the 18th Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival

The first concert visit at the 2000 year-old ancient Roman theatre of Aspendos was a special highlight for the Vienna Philharmonic, Maestro Zubin Mehta and Maestro Daniel Barenboim. The venue´s unique atmosphere and acoustics had been emphasized in the run-up to the event with the response of both Maestri and musicians being unanimously ecstatic. Stravinsky´s Symphony in Three Movements, Beethoven´s piano concerto No. 3 in c-minor and Don Quixote by Richard Strauss poured out into the night delighting an enraptured audience which shared the musicians´ enthusiasm and greeted them with standing ovations. The concert was also broadcast live on TV reaching millions of music lovers in Turkey at home. May this unforgettable evening in Aspendos soon be continued.

At this point we would cordially like to thank Maestro Mehta, Maestro Barenboim, the orchestra board and all musicians as well as our hosts in Monte-Carlo and Aspendos.

20 June 2011

Guest concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in Monte-Carlo

For the first time in decades, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra guested in Monaco performing a brilliant concert at the Grimaldi Forum. Maestro Zubin Mehta, celebrating his 50th anniversary in the artistic co-operation with the orchestra, and Daniel Barenboim took the lead in an event which drew audiences from near and far. The programme was identical with the one Mo. Mehta had conducted for his philharmonic debut in 1961: Igor Stravinsky´s Symphony in Three Movements, Ludwig van Beethoven´s piano concerto No. 3 in c-minor as well as the symphonic poem Don Quixote by Richard Strauss were met with standing ovations. Before the interval, Daniel Barenboim rewarded the audience with an encore after his memorable rendition of Beethoven´s piano concerto, while Zubin Mehta and the orchestra rounded off the evening at the end with Johann Strauß´ Tritsch-Tratsch Polka as an encore.

Prince Albert II. and his sister Caroline of Monaco also attended the concert and partook in a reception afterwards in honour of Mo. Mehta, Mo. Barenboim and the orchestra board. It was a delightful musical experience hopefully to be continued soon with a new guest concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in Monte-Carlo.
